First United Methodist Church serves as the Charter Organization for two Scout Units. The Contemporary Theology Sunday School Class has served as the Charter Organization for Boy Scout Troop 122 since the Church was Chartered in 1995. The Church is also home to Venture Crew 2, which was chartered in 1999. Troop 122 has called 3rd and Elm home for over 50 years. For many years different groups in Central United Methodist Church served as Charter Organizations: The Men's Fellowship Group, The Willing Workers, Asbury Explorers, and Contemporary Theology Sunday School Classes. Many members have served the Troop in many leadership roles and others have been financial supporters as well. The United Methodist Men were long time supporters and The Phil Rothrock Memorial provided over $1300 in Camperships for Scouts to attend Summer Camp. Many T122 Eagles have been members of the churches and several Eagle projects have benefited the Church. We remain grateful for each of those projects. But more importantly, we have watched as energetic young boys have grown and matured in the Troop and become very focused young men. You can find out more about the Troop, it's history and it's programs at it's website, http://www.troop122.com/ Venturing is a relatively new program in Boy Scouts of America but was spun out of the much older Exploring program in 1995. It's programs are for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venture Crew 2 activities include: Climbing & Rappelling, Caving, Canoeing, and Backpacking. It is an annual participant in Westark Area Council's, Weekend on Rope and has Advisor's who are certified in Climbing and Rappelling Instruction. The Crew has traveled over 50 miles of the Canadian Wilderness by canoe and has participated in the Great White River Canoe Race, a grueling 120 mile race from Bull Shoals Dam to the city of Batesville. The Crew has toured numerous undeveloped caves in the Northwest Arkansas area including restricted access caves that require commitment to Leave No Trace principles. The Crew has also been Backpacking in the Rock Mountains and Whitewater Rafting on the Arkansas River in Colorado. The Crew meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, at 6:00, in the Youth Activity Center, and averages at least one outdoor activity a month.
